Introduction to Hand builiding: A Coiled Cookie Jar

Coil pottery is often considered the most beginner-friendly method. You don’t need a wheel - just roll your clay into coils, layer them up, and shape them at your own pace.

    What You’ll Learn

Prepare your Base: Roll out your slab base. Use a round object like a plate to cut around with a knife to make a perfect circle.

Create Coils: Roll the clay on a lightly damped surface with both hands to create an even coil.

Secure Coils: Learn how to secure your coils by using clay slip and scoring your piece.

Shape Your Pieces: Learn how to build up layers of coils to form the desired shape.

Glaze: Add finishing touch by glazing your final piece.

    Registration Fee:
    • Members: $100
    • Not-Yet Members: $125

Can't make it but still want to donate a handmade bowl? Yay! Please leave any bowls that you have made that you would like to donate on the labeled green cart in the pottery studio.
