A Study in Leaves - Fold Forming and Texturing Copper

Dates/times:

May 3rd and 10th, 5:00PM-8:00PM

Instructor: Christie Harris

In this “make and take” class, participants will explore fold forming and texturing copper to create organic leaf shapes. Participants will force the copper to patina, choosing from a variety of techniques, and finish their jewelry pieces into an earrings and pendant set. We’ll be using a mapp gas torch to anneal our pieces. Participants should be comfortable with the idea of holding and firing a torch. This is a two-session class.

Key learning points:

·        Cutting copper base metal

·        Annealing

·        Fold forming

·        Using texturing (and other) hammers

·        Exploring patina

·        Simple wire wraps

·        Using small hand tools – pliers, loop making, cutters, hole punch

SAFETY: Participants should bring gloves to prevent cuts from sharp metal. Long hair should be tied back.
